ERC-8183 (RFC)
ERC-8183 is a job with the money held in the middle. The client funds a budget. The provider submits the work. An evaluator either releases the pay or the money goes back. If the clock runs out, the client can claim a refund.
The spec is a Draft, so the details can change.
How a job works
Think of an envelope of cash held by a clerk. The worker slides the finished page across the desk. A judge says “pay” or “give it back.” The clerk does not decide whether the page is beautiful. The judge does, and in this spec that decision is final.

rejectsends the money back. If the job expires, claimRefundsends it back. Those endings are final. The spec does not add an appeal.
The evaluator can be the client or another contract. After the work is submitted, that evaluator can complete or reject. The registry does not check the work itself.
What the job contract does not do
- It does not promise the work is good. It pays if the evaluator says so.
- It does not include a dispute room after complete, reject, or expiry.
- It does not prove the provider is a skilled agent. Pair it with identity, reputation, or a check if you need that.
- A bug in the contract can still trap funds. Read the deployment, not only this summary.
Professional use
- You can hire a research or audit agent and release pay only when your reviewer accepts.
- The agent can see the budget is locked before it spends the time.
- You should name an evaluator you trust, because their word is the last word.
Business use
- A department can fund one task without sending the whole treasury to the provider.
- A purchasing agent can be the client. A separate checker can be the evaluator.
- Expiry gives the company a way to recover funds if nobody finishes.
Personal use
- You can pay a helper agent for one job without handing it your whole wallet.
- If you are the evaluator, you are also the person who must be fair. The contract will not second-guess you.
- Funding, submitting, and finishing each cost a network fee on top of the budget.
