What persists when an agentic NFT changes owners?
“Persists” means it stays attached to the token, so the new owner gets it. Some things move. Some things reset. Some things never lived on the token at all.
What usually moves
- The token itself. ERC-721 ownership changes. The new wallet is the owner. Source: ERC-721.
- The agent identity, if the identity is that NFT. ERC-8004 says the identity registry is an ERC-721, and the owner of the token is the owner of the agent. Feedback already recorded against that agent id stays on that id. Source: ERC-8004.
- Onchain notes. ERC-8048 says transferring the token transfers ownership of the record. A soul stored as
metadata(id, "context")stays with the token. Source: ERC-8048. - A token-bound wallet’s contents. ERC-6551 binds the account to the token. Coins sitting in that account stay in that account, so they follow the NFT. Source: ERC-6551.
- Private agent files, only with a valid proof. ERC-7857’s transfer is meant to hand the new owner the encrypted metadata (model, memory, character) and to prove that handoff. If the proof step is skipped, do not assume the secret files moved. Source: ERC-7857.
What resets or does not move
- ERC-8004
agentWallet. The spec says this payment address is cleared on transfer and must be verified again by the new owner. It does not silently keep paying the old wallet. - Off-chain servers, keys, and chat memory. ERC-8048 says the transfer does not move any offchain server, key, balance, or memory that the records only point at.
- Your ChatGPT or Claude history. Those logs sit in your AI account. The buyer does not receive them when they buy the NFT.
- Approvals you set on other contracts. Selling the NFT does not always cancel every old approval. Check operators before and after a sale.
- A copied prompt. Anyone can paste a public prompt. Ownership matters when an app checks the holder onchain, or when only the holder can update the soul.
Musegod, specifically
Musegod’s docs say each muse is an ERC-8004 agent bound to the NFT, and the soul, name, and traits are ERC-8048 records. Sell the muse and control of that agent goes with it. The soul text stays on the contract. Your private chats with the muse in ChatGPT do not.
